Introduction
Schwannoma (neurilemoma) and neurofibroma are benign tumors that arise from the peripheral-nerve sheath. Neurofibroma is
often associated with neurofibromatosis, whereas schwannoma usually occurs in isolation. Schwannoma is rarely seen as an intraocular tumor that arises from the ciliary body and choroid.1 Although this type of tumor is cytologically benign and not life threatening, appropriate treatment is required to prevent visual loss and its progressive enlargement. However, it is difficult to distinguish schwannoma from amelanotic malignant melanoma by clinical examination alone. In this study, we report a patient with a large nonpigmented intraocular mass of the choroidin the left eyewhichwas diagnosed to be choroidal schwannoma by surgical excision.
