Chronic rhinosinusitis is an inflammatory disease involving the sinonasal cavity, affecting 5–12% of the general population.1 The diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis, which includes chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps or without nasal polyps, is based on sinonasal inflammation for at least 12 consecutive weeks with the presence of at least two major nasal symptoms (eg, nasal obstruction, nasal discharge, facial pain, and loss sense of smell) and at least one documented objective finding (endoscope or CT).2 Health-care expenditures for rhinosinusitis are significantly greater than those for other common respiratory conditions, such as hay fever, acute asthma, and chronic bronchitis.3 In the USA,
